Leicester youngsters impress at Yazoo National Youth Festival
Leicester hockey club enjoyed success at the Yazoo National Youth Hockey Festival thanks to their junior team.
The Under-Nine mini-hockey event was a highlight of the annual festival in which 40 junior teams from across the country competed in Nottingham.
The teams were kitted out in various animal-themed shirts with Leicester playing as the Zebras.
The team combined youngsters from the two junior development centres at St Margaret’s Pastures Sports Centre and Leicester Grammar School.
Leicester won three of their four matches and drew the other.
There were encouraging performances from all the girls and boys, with Rohan Bhuhi winning the player of the tournament award in the boys category. He impressed with his all-round skills and scored eight goals.
Tilly Johnson scored two goals and the team conceded only one goal in the tournament.
Leicester’s England and Great Britain international Chloe Rogers made the presentations.
Leicester team managers Gaynor Nash and Harvinder Bhuhi said they were encouraged by the results of their efforts in helping the children work towards achieving their potential through the continuing junior coaching sessions run by the men’s and women’s clubs.
